From the shortest to the tallest, I remember the days when he used to struggle to reach the top shelf, and now he's towering over me with his head held high. My heart is heavy as I watch my godson, my sweet boy Brendan, who is like a 3rd son to me, continue to bravely battle a rare cancer. The bond we share isn't easily able to be put into words, but it started in the hospital on the day of his birth 11 years ago. He means the world to me, to his family, and to everyone who knows him. He is a warrior, but the battle is taking its toll. As I lay with him the other day, we shared words that I will cherish forever... ME: Do you know how much Auntie Jody loves you? Stressors and anxieties are a part of life; kids act up, partners and spouses have bad days, the bills keep coming in, loved ones go through unexpected health or emotional challenges... there are so many reasons to feel stressed and anxious. 🥴 But the truth is, these things don't have to control us (or our moods). One of the best things I have ever done for my mind, heart, body (and my family--ha!) was to learn how to become more mindful so I could navigate life stressors in a more graceful, effective way. I wanted to be able to stand firm in my foundation, even if my world was crashing and burning around me. And boy oh boy have I been given loads of opportunities to practice this over the years! I've had some real challenging doozies! It's because of mindfulness though, that I've learned to be more present in the moment, and less reactive to the things happening around me, which ultimately has led me to a more peaceful and calm life. If you feel like you've been hearing about more and more women removing their breast implants... it's because there's a real problem with them! I just recently had surgery to have my breast implants removed because of Breast Implant Illness. And, it is REAL. I'll be honest, over the last several months, I had been getting a little tired of hearing the same recycled "advice" that I saw swirling out in the internet on breast implant illness 1. That breast implant illness is not real; 2. That breast implants are safe and there is no need to worry about them; 3. That only women with silicone implants are at risk for developing breast implant illness.. I knew regardless of what some of the medical industry was saying, I HAD to get my toxic silicone bags out of my body. 🏵 I was worrying that my implants were making me sick (and they were), 🏵 I became increasingly frustrated for not knowing what the #@$& was wrong with me, and I felt anxious about the potential for more health problems down the road. My left Implant was not only ruptured, but it was almost completely disintegrated. 😭🤮 And I've learned that I was definitely not the only one. Holy moly! 48 hours post explant. (420cc silicone gummy bears in for 14 years and one was "completely ruptured and disintegrated".) I wanted to see if there was a difference in the whites of my eyes because I saw so many other women's drastic changes. Wow! I was not expecting such a difference in the overall inflammation and puffiness in my face too though. I knew I was inflamed, but to see it side by side like this is crazy. The picture on the left was taken 48 hours after surgery. And the one on the right was taken 5 days before. All of that inflammation... GONE. The whites of my eyes... BRIGHTER My mind...CLEARER Joint pain... Breast Implant Illness (BII). The first time I read those words was in a women's Facebook group, and I was a bit skeptical. That was about 3 years ago. 🙃 It perked my attention enough to dabble and stay inside the group though. Afterall, I had 11 year old breast implants sitting inside my chest. My body has been fighting these foreign objects for 14 years now (but definitely the last 1.5 years and even more so the last 6 months) --- and its ready to release them. - Extreme fatigue - Brain fog - Joint pain - Throat hoarseness - Systemic inflammation (and inability to absorb the nutrients from my clean eating.) - Overall just felt like I was literally slowly dying, or had cancer hiding somewhere. 😪🥺 The body is a miraculous apparatus that knows what it needs and what it DOESN'T need. 💫 The woman I was when I implanted these 420cc gummy bear bags 14 years ago isn't who I am today. This couldn't be more true. And I'm reminded of this every time life gets hard, and I go through a challenge. I wanted to stop by, so you're the first to know about my NEW WEBSITE launch!! 🥳🥳 I'm really excited about it! It's been a work in progress for months, and it's still not perfect, but that's OK by me. (#startugly) This is more than just a silly website launch, though; for me, it's the start of a beautiful new chapter. Most of you may already know, but to give you a bit more background, once COVID times began, I was forced to not just look at my personal life, but my professional life too. At the time, I was writing, coaching, and speaking about all things #selfcare. But I suddenly felt a shift in my heart, and so I did the unthinkable.... I shut down everything EXCEPT my one-to-one coaching. My programs I had been building, my next book I was writing, all of it. And I took a pause, and I went inward. 🙊 I could feel deep inside my soul that I was in the midst of birthing something new. I KNEW that I was being called to shift gears. And so, I trusted, allowed, and embraced the uncertainty to coexist within me. And I waited... And waited... And waited.... For clarity. For 9 months, I felt like I was being held on the tarmac of a runway; only I had no idea where I was going. Until I finally received divine guidance (insight). Led by my own inner guide, I followed my intuition, wrote a new book, overhauled my brand, and launched a few very exciting pilot programs! It took me a longggggg time to truly get this idea. I've had to wholeheartedly practice not making ANY exceptions. Not people, not worldly events, not the life challenges I'm faced with, NOTHING (or NO- THING) is responsible for my inner peace. 💫 And while I certainly don't do this practice perfectly, I try. The crushing pain of my dad's suicide years ago, the grief and confusion I felt as my grandfather dropped dead in front of me when I was a teen, the rejection I carried from years of emotional abuse from my stepdad, the deep despair of my divorce with two small kids in tow, the countless days of worrying about money, the numerous heartbreaks, the daily stresses of being a single mom, the initial fears and worries that surrounded my son's diagnose of a brain malformation, while they may all be in the past, I'm truly thankful for them all. 🙌 I bow to them in gratitude. Every single one of them, I bow and say "Thank you. Thank you for putting my heart through hell. Without you, I would not know the happiness, inner contentment, joy, and love that I know today. 🙌 Thank you for forcing me to my knees, breaking me, and showing me who I'm made of. There's something so powerful about letting go and surrendering to what IS, rather than clinging tightly to desires. ☀️ Holding my dreams and desires with an open palm, has been my saving grace. Especially these last few months and moving to a new state in the midst of a pandemic. ☀️ Our Thanksgiving plans we had planned for months completely just changed. Which caused a dominoe effect of other changes to occur. Like not seeing family members, shifting the moving truck, the hired helpers, the hotel reservations along the route, bumping up service set up dates at the new house, and on, and on....but that's ok! They're just changes. Not only did the changes not frazzle me, but I felt an overwhelming amount of peace & acceptance. Because when I hold onto desires loosely, they don't have a chance to grip me to cause suffering. Instead, staying open allows new things to unfold and plans to click into place.
